This was the first 470 event for Mills, after winning the Gold in Rio last summer, and despite competing and training in the 49erFX up to now this season, the sailor was unstoppable and beaten by anyone as the race went on.

After finishing the race, Mills said: “For going into the medal race we had a gap of good points, I believe that also adds pressure on everyone as everyone almost expects you to win, thus to come away and win the race was a big relief to all of us.”

McIntyre further added that “Before coming into the event, we had no pressure, because we knew that we had the advantage of speed.”

The Fellow crew of British Sailing Team Anna Carpenter and Amy Seabright finished the ninth in the medal race and end their week overall in the seventh position.

The battle was the closely fought one at the front of the fleet of Finn throughout the event.
